Products/Field Guides:
Information contained in our field guides/manuals outline procedures for first
responders using safe, effective methods. The procedures contain many
notes, cautions, and WARNINGS which should be followed, along with
standard procedures, to hopefully eliminate the possibility of personal
injury.
Although information in our field guide/manual is based on industry sources and is
complete as possible at the time of publication, the possibility exists
that some vehicle manufacturers made later changes / updates, which could
not be included here. While striving for total accuracy, we cannot assume
responsibility for any errors, changes or omissions that may occur in the
compilation of this data.
Even though the instructions have been checked for accuracy and ease of
application; success and safety when working around hybrid vehicles depend
to a great extent upon individual accuracy, team accuracy, skill and
caution. For this reason, we are not able to guarantee the result of any
procedure contained herein. Nor can we assume responsibility for any
damage to property or injury to persons occasioned from the procedures.
Persons engaging in the procedures do so entirely at their own risk
therefore;
Neither Internet Listing Service, hybridhazards.info, Hybrid Hazards Co.,
its affiliates nor any of their third party licensors shall be liable for
any indirect, incidental, consequential, punitive, special or exemplary
damages.
Manual - Hybrid General
Guidelines & Warnings
On arrival, emergency responders should always follow their standard
operating procedures for vehicle incidents except as noted in
manufacturer’s vehicle specific emergency response guides. In most cases
emergencies involving hybrids may be handled like other automobiles once
the vehicle has been immobilized and disabled.
NEVER ASSUME a hybrid vehicle is shut off simply because it is QUIET.
NEVER ASSUME HV cables are disabled simply because an airbag has deployed.
ALWAYS MAKE
SURE vehicle is shut off/disabled & HV & SRS systems are DISABLED.
High Voltage systems may remain powered up to 10 minutes after vehicle is
shut off or disabled. Avoid touching, cutting, or breaching any high
voltage power cable or high voltage component.
SRS systems may remain powered up to 3 minutes after vehicle is shut off
or disabled. Disarming air bag system electronically does NOT
relieve the pressure contained in hybrid gas inflators. The only safe Air
Bag cylinder is one that has been deployed. Un-deployed air bag gas
cylinders carry a 3000+psi charge, therefore NEVER cut into an un-deployed
air bag cylinder.
Hybrid Vehicle WARNING:
Failure to shut off or disable a hybrid vehicle before emergency response
procedures are performed may result in serious injury or death from the
unintentional deployment of the SRS Air Bag Systems or severe burns,
electric shock or death from HV electrical systems or HV battery packs.
If disabling procedures can not be performed, proceed with extreme caution
as there is no assurance that the high voltage electrical system, SRS, CNG
or fuel pumps are disabled.
